    My name is Michael E. Walsh, President of Metropolitan Removal Co., Inc. Our company is involved in the business of selective interior demolition, roll-off container rental and property clean outs. Metropolitan Removal was formed in 1984 with two employees (my father Edward and myself, Michael). As with all new businesses, we had a lot of energy and great ideas. Business began to take off, the phone began to ring, employees were being hired and bills started to come in and needed to be sent out. From 1984-1998 business was bustling. By the end of 1998, Metropolitan Removal was doing sales well in excess of $1,000,000 annually. There were several problems: the company was losing money, operationally paperwork was a nightmare and the company was having a problem paying its vendors.

    In early 1999, one of our vendors to whom we owed money informed me that a person whom they had dealt with was starting his own business and I may want to contact him. I took the phone number and contacted Dave Brown of “Bookkeeping & Business Service.” Dave came out to my office immediately to perform an assessment of my company’s needs. At this point in time we were operating out of a large group of filing boxes & a couple of computers that were not networked. After Mr. Brown made his assessment, he informed me that our business showed promise but was missing a key ingredient. The key ingredient missing was a “centralized set of processes.” Mr. Brown developed a core group of processes involving: computer automation, software implementation and most importantly individual yet integrated processes to facilitate daily operations. Financial systems regarding billing, accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll job costing, job estimating, employee benefits, cash management and financial reporting were designed and implemented. 

    BBS was able to offer our company individualized training on systems as they were implemented. During the implementation period, BBS was with us every step of the way and were exceptionally thorough on verifying that all systems were tailored to the specific needs of our business. In hindsight had Metropolitan not contracted the services of BBS there exists little doubt that we would still be in business. Our company still contracts their services and has found our relationship to be a fantastic business marriage. In October of 2004, Metropolitan moved into its new 9000 Square Foot facility. Although Metropolitan still faces an ever-evolving set of business challenges, with the continuing support of BBS and their dedicated staff, Metropolitan embraces the new challenges with zeal.
